This year I will be participating in the 2009 Pasadena Chalk Fest (pictures after the event), and every year all artists are required to submit a painting for a silent auction. For various reason every year I seem to be unable to submit a finished canvas, so this year I made an effort and I am submitting my first oil painting. This painting will be the first painting that ever put up for sale, if you want to call the auction a sale. All proceeds will go to the Light Bringer Project, which is a non-profit arts organization. FishEye makes yet another appearance in one of my paintings. This painting was started about a year ago, before I moved. It started as a quick sketch and turned into a larger piece (16″ x 20″). While sketching and outlining the drawing, I was undecided on the size of the “fish eye”. I kept going back and forth on the canvas, and finally decided to make it much smaller than the original sketch. For this painting I wanted to use a single dominant color instead of using various colors. I still wanted to make it bright, but keep it within one color range. The final piece came out ok. I think it could have used other colors, but I’m still happy with the results. (more…)
*** UPDATE August 11, 2008 – view post for more photos *** .Continuing with my Flower theme, here is another flower painting. This one turned out nicer than I envisioned. I was at first thinking about creating a black and white flower with a very strong background, but I didn’t like the results, so I went back and added some color. I’m really happy with the results. I think I’m finally learning how to blend colors. I’m also learning how to manage the amount of paint I squeeze out of the paint tubes. At fist I was throwing much of the unused paint away, but now I beginning to estimate the amount needed and whatever I have left over, I just add another coating. Check out the pics… (more…)
This is my favorite object. I call it Fish Eye. I’ve done many drawings and sketches of it. This is the first time I put the Fish Eye on canvas and oil paint. I usually sketch it then outline it and fill it with ink. One of my friends got a tattoo of it the back of her neck. I will ask her for a picture when I see her. The theme of Fish Eye is always underwater, sometimes swimming in parallel with other Fish Eyes. On this painting I focused on the objects, the movement, and the shadows. I’m pretty happy with this one. I think I’m getting better at this. (more…)
Finally I had a chance to continue my paintings. I know, I’m not great, or even good, but painting keeps me away from the computer and focused on a fun project. I will continue uploading more projects as I finish them. This painting, called “Flower One”, is a drawing of a flower, mixed with a tree, mixed with the sun. I’ve been drawing simple flowers for a long time. I will hopefully continue painting some real-looking flowers, with more details. (more…)
